Internationally Distinguished Professor Christos H. Papadimitriou Awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Department of Management Science and Technology
It is with great honour that the Department of Management Science and Technology of the University of the Peloponnese awarded an Honorary Doctorate to the internationally distinguished scientist Christos H. Papadimitriou, a leading theoretical computer scientist and Donovan Family Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University.
The honorary doctorate ceremony took place on Friday, 17 October 2025, at the Malliopouleio Municipal Theatre of Tripoli, marking a particularly significant occasion for the academic community of the University of the Peloponnese and the city of Tripoli.
During the same event, Professor Christos H. Papadimitriou was also proclaimed an Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Tripoli, in recognition of both his outstanding international scientific career and his special ties to Arcadia.
Professor Papadimitriou is widely regarded as one of the world’s most distinguished scholars in Theoretical Computer Science. His extensive and multifaceted research and academic work has made a profound contribution to the development of major areas of modern computer science and has received broad international recognition.
The conferment of an Honorary Doctorate upon Professor Papadimitriou represents a distinct honour for the Department of Management Science and Technology and the University of the Peloponnese, further strengthening the Department’s links with internationally renowned scholars and with cutting-edge developments in science and technology.
This initiative forms part of the Department’s broader strategy for international outreach, internationalisation, and the development of strong academic and research collaborations. At the same time, it creates important opportunities for the exchange of scientific knowledge, the development of new educational and research initiatives, and the further advancement of the academic and research fields represented within the Department and the School of Economics and Technology.
